The Magic Schoolbus

This was another super fun cake to make. The students of the Magic Schoolbus are on a space adventure for this cake. It was cool to put kids in the cake as well :) This is a bus of diversity!

(January 2009)

It almost glows...

A very bright cake... that's all I really have to say. Hahaha. (January 2009)

Simply red

This was a simple but elegant cake in red. The bow on top was hand made out of real ribbon. The ribbon at the bottom tier of the cake is made of fondant. (November 2008)

Sailormoon!

All I have to say is... awesome. I was (and still am) a HUGE Sailormoon fan. (October 2008)

Birthday present

Again, another fun cake. Making the bow was the most exciting as each loop was assembled into the bow individually. This cake was also made, catered to children with a peanut allergy. If anyone is interested in knowing, I checked with the manufacturers of Dawn Foods. Their Decorice fondant is safe for people with peanut and egg allergies. Wilton cleared their food colourings and white icing for peanut and egg allergies as well. (October 2008)

The christening of prince Milan

This is yet another christening/ baptism type cake, but is a variation of Benjamin's cake. This one has a more elaborate and ornate style, and the exquisity of the cake definitely comes through the white roses.

I made modifications to this cake, particularly in applying orthodox crosses and scripture.

Again, my inspiration came from the architecture of the church. The cross in the centre and angel wings were inspired by the gothic style stained glass windows of the church. I added doves to the cake as a thought came to me of doves being released or flying through the cathedral of the church by the devine windows. A beautiful cake for the beautiful prince. (October 2008)

Hannah Montana

Being my first commercially labeled cake, of which I have most likely infringed on copyrights... I think I did quite well with this one. Hahaha, and it was FUN too... AGAIN. This is a simple cake with Hannah Montana's logo letter art done by freehand.
As girly as the cake is, I thought I would top it off with some gerber daisies and black feathers. Style wise, I figured it was something Miley Cyrus would approve of? Haha... the absolute most important thing is that the little girl to whom this cake was made was very pleased with it. (October 2008)

Momji - natural beauty

For this cake, I did not want to do much in terms of decoration. I wanted to showcase the natural beauty of the momji branches.

The cake was put together and frosted with vegan buttercream.
The part I love the most about this cake are the seed pods. I love the way they look on this cake and the beautiful organic lines it adds to the piece. (September 2008)

Green hydrangeas

I think that out of all of the pictures of my cakes that have been taken, this one is the nicest. This was taken professionally, but it just made everything look that much better!

This cake was inspired by both the hydrangea and the romance of rose petals. This cake was built layer upon layer with separators between each. The separators were made of foam discs lined with fancy ribbon. (July 2008)

Rosey wedding cake

This cake was based off of an earlier wedding cake I had done in periwinkle. The colour is different here, and I used pink tipped sweetheart roses instead of pure white roses. (September 2008)

Little baptism

After the request of this cake, I am getting the impression that people like the design of Benjamin's baptism cake. Hahaha... which I'm glad for. After this request I decided to make it a point never to make the exact same cake twice. So, any other baptism cake I have made following the style of Benjamin's cake I ensured those other cakes were variations and not the exact same thing. (September 2008)

The birthday girl loves purple and puppies...

The little girl this cake was made for loves puppies and her favourite colour is purple... so I decided to combine the two and make a purple puppy cake. The puppy is made completely of fondant and totally edible. This cake was so much fun... ok, so I understand I have said this about almost every cake I've made so far; but it's true!!! This was a cute cake to make, and I'd do it all over again! Anyone need a coloured puppy cake? Hahahahaha... (September 2008)

Chinese wedding anniversary

This was a lot of fun to create. My inspiration came from the Chinese red satin sheet that is the parallel to the Western wedding's guest book. At the traditional Chinese wedding, all attending guests sign a large red satin sheet with a phoenix and a dragon on it. The phoenix is the symbol for Yang (dark half of the yin/yang symbol), which is also the female half of the equation. The dragon is the male side, which is also the white side Yin.

So, I glazed the fondant so it looks more satiny, but the majority of the detail went into the phoenix and dragon. Because I didn't want the satin sheet to look like a table cloth, I added flowers and red ribbon to the back of the cake. This was made for a friend of mine who had been celebrating her wedding anniversary. (September 2008)

Angelic

Another baptism cake, but this one was for a pretty little girl named Edyn. This was very similar to Benjamin's cake, but it's much more girly. The top is also carved out on an angle to accentuate the height of the wings, and to give it a 'prettier' feel I made a circle of flowers around the baby on top.

The wings for this cake along the bottom tier were sized down but made to be a little more fairy like as well. (August 2008)

Pretty in Pink!

This was created for a very good friend of mine who's neice was turning 1. Seriously one of the cutest little girls I've ever met. So, what better way to celebrate than a very pink, very pretty girly cake! (January 2008)

Baby shower bouquet and cupcakes

Of all the flowery cakes I've done, I think I like the look of this one the best. The colour scheme just worked out so well. The cupcakes were made very similarly to the corporate cupcakes with the logo chip. These were handpainted as well with the baby's name and teddy bear. Again, the cupcakes were individually wrapped and adorned with ribbong and a matching gemstone.

The colours worked out really well. The top of the cake was carved to be rounded so as to give it a bouquet-esque feel. Again, all edible script ribbon and all! (June 2008)

The Hoff

All I have to say about this one is LOVED IT! This was one of the first cakes I played around with using fondant as the sculpting media vs cake. The Hoff and all his bits are made of pure sugary fondant. Everything with the exception of the sign is completely edible.

I think I had the most fun with making the satin cusions and rolling his hair (all of it) individually and applying it. The flower was a last minute touch, which I think just sets the entire mood of the cake! The sheet on the heart shaped bed and the cusions were brushed with a red/gold iridescent petal dust to give that satiny look. LOVE IT!!!! (August 2008)

Cupcakes go corporate!

These cupcakes were made as corporate gifts to wrap up a project a cousin of mine had been working on. The logo tags were handpainted with the corporate logo and the eP and LOR are significant to the project completed. Each cupcake were then individually wrapped in cello with orange ribbon to accent the corporate logo. (April 2008)

Go Leafs Go!

For a friend who is a huge Leafs fan... blueberry cheesecake.
(February 2008)

Friendship star

I absolutely loved this cake. This was made for a holiday party with friends of mine I have known all my life. As we all grow into our own lives, we don't get together as often as we used to. Making this cake for this particular holiday event was very special. The inspiration came from a very special place in my heart.

Because it was a holiday party after Christmas, I gave the cake a wintery feel. The the cake was made up of blocks of colour, igloo style. To add snow into the design, I piped little snowballs between some of the spaces of the coloured igloo blocks. The cake was also brushed with iridescent petal dust to give it an icy feel.

To encompass the heart of the event, I wrapped a fondant ribbon around the entire cake and wrote a quote "But friendship is precious, not only in the shade, but in the sunshine of life; and thanks to a benevolent arrangement of things, the greater part of life is sunshine."- Thomas Jefferson

Finally, I wanted to include everyone in the cake to tie it all together. I acquired the list of everyone that would be attending... 56 of us were going to be there :) So I made 56 fondant leaves and flowers, each leaf with a name on it. This was cool because when people came in, it was just fun to find your name on the cake!! ... and what better way to top off a cake than with a snowflake star on top!! :) Absolutely one of my favourite creations. (December 2007)

Spiderman

I also had so much fun making this Spiderman inspired cake. In making this cake, I wanted it to be design focused vs making something that was representational. The design was kept fairly simple, but it relays the idea and theme well. (October 2007)

VW Bus

VW bus made completely of cake and fondant :) 3 layers of pure sugar... and wheels with P-slot rim detailing!! This is one of my favourites and probably one of the cakes I had the most fun with! (September 2007)

Her first frisbee

The proud parents of this little girl are just obsessed with frisbee. Yes, this cake was inspired by frisbee... but in a cute and cuddly teddy bear kinda way. So, I decided to combine the two things and made a teddy bear frisbee cake.

The top of the cake is one big frisbee with a teddy bear's face on it. All around the side is a landscape of teddy bears playing frisbee in a field. I didn't capture it in the picture, but there is a sun and clouds on either side of the cake adding to the frisbee landscape. (September 2007)

Coach!

Ahhh... Coach. This was such an exciting cake design, but when it came down to applying the design the excitement wore off really quickly... like at the 4th "C" I cut out by hand using an exacto knife, and laying it down meticulously to make the Coach pattern. Although this came out just the way I wanted, this had to be the most tedious and painstaking cake I have made yet.
Inspired by Coach, this "blingy" cake was done up with glimmery glamour all the way. (September 2007)

Grasses and toasted almond sand dunes of cheesecake

I was approached by a bride whose husband did not like any other type of dessert except for cheesecake. Her wedding theme was "beach"... the kind of beach you would find up north Ontario. This was extremely exciting for me because the ideas were just flooding my head!

The cakes are all cheesecake, which I sculpted on slopes again and put on risers of various heights to look like sand dunes. I then toasted some ground almond to look like sand you would find on a pebbly beach. I coated the cheesecake and cut out a hole in each one to insert a bud vase holding some blades of tall grass, wheat stems, and lavendar.

I was aiming for a calm, serene, and relaxing feel to the cake... like how you feel when you walk out to a perfectly calm private beach that no one else seems to be on when you arrive. (September 2007)

Sweet innocence...

This was one of my first religious baptism cakes. Because the religion meant so much here, I needed to draw my inspiration from something that would encompass the message and meaning of the baptism. So, I thought to myself... where do people draw their religious inspirations from? The church of course!

The cake here was completely inspired by the beautiful architechture of the Catholic Church. The colour makes it suitable for a boy, but it is not too stereotypical of gender. I wanted the doves and wings in the gothic style windows to give the overall cake an innocent and uplifting quality, while the cake topper provides a warm familial quality. I went for subtleness in that the angel wings of the cake topper actually form a heart shape around the little simplified baby. (September 2007)
