Chinese wedding anniversary

This was a lot of fun to create. My inspiration came from the Chinese red satin sheet that is the parallel to the Western wedding's guest book. At the traditional Chinese wedding, all attending guests sign a large red satin sheet with a phoenix and a dragon on it. The phoenix is the symbol for Yang (dark half of the yin/yang symbol), which is also the female half of the equation. The dragon is the male side, which is also the white side Yin.

So, I glazed the fondant so it looks more satiny, but the majority of the detail went into the phoenix and dragon. Because I didn't want the satin sheet to look like a table cloth, I added flowers and red ribbon to the back of the cake. This was made for a friend of mine who had been celebrating her wedding anniversary. (September 2008)
